Pre-Kindergarten Instructional Assistant (10-month, Pending Grant Funding)
Wor-Wic Community College is accepting applications for a Pre-K instructional assistant to work 32.5 hours per week to help the instructors and other professionals in the Jordan Center by working closely with students in small groups to achieve instructional objectives. This position is considered a mandatory reporter for the Department of Human Services.
Essential Duties

- Works with students in small groups on a specific concept/skill according to the students' skill level; assists with large group activities, field trips and other special programs/activities for students; works with individuals or small groups to reinforce material introduced by the teacher; and provides programmed practice activities and repetitions as developed by the teacher
- Guides independent study and other work assigned by the teacher
- Reinforces appropriate behavior by following classroom teacher/case manager expectations and student's behavior plan (if applicable); reports student behavioral and other problems to the instructor and assists with student problems
- Assists with breakfast, lunch, snack, cleanup, lavatory, clothing, personal hygiene and wash-up routines
- Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma
- One year of experience in a child care setting
- Excellent organizational, self-starter, human relations and verbal and written communication skills
- The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, students, parents and associates
- The ability to use classroom and instructional equipment
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Criminal and child protective services background checks, pre-employment medical report and approval from the Maryland Department of Education, Office of Child Care required
- Must complete:
- basic health and safety training and ADA training within 30 days of hire
- center aide orientation within 90 days of hire
- a minimum of 6 clock hours per year of continuing education
- Preference will be given to candidates with an associate degree in early childhood education or another relevant field
Supplemental Information
This is a conditional grant-funded support staff position. This position will be filled only once grant-funding has been approved. This position is scheduled to work 32.5 hours per week. Days and Hours of work are Mon. - Fri., 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. (30 minute lunch). This is a 10-month position that follows the Wicomico County Public School calendar. This position is not eligible for benefits other than the option to elect subsidized employee-only coverage in the college's standard medical plan, which the employee must elect when first eligible, and must pay the employee portion of the premium to remain enrolled.
