Position: Director, Personal and Career Development

Brief Description of Position:  Under the direction of the Dean of Student Services, the Director of Personal and Career Development is responsible for providing leadership to the College on all matters related to mental health, disabilities, and career development. The Director will establish, plan, organize and maintain control of all aspects of the department and will establish and maintain external relationships with local human service/mental health agencies, Burke County Public Schools leaders, local civic organizations, and local and regional employers. Additionally, the Director provides academic and career counseling to WPCC students and collaborates with students and community-based providers to locate appropriate counseling services for students whose needs fall outside the scope of care for campus-based mental health services.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree required. 
  2. Master’s Degree in Counseling, Social Work, or equivalent health related discipline preferred.
  3. Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience working with persons with various disabilities is required (e.g. Neurodiversity, physical disabilities, sensory disabilities, mental/psychological impairments, and learning disabilities).
  4. Two - three years of experience supervising professional and paraprofessional staff in an educational, human services agency, or similar setting is required.
  5. Demonstrate knowledge and experience implementing state and federal guidelines and academic accommodations as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
  6. Demonstrate ability to communicate professionally and collaborate effectively with external organizations and companies.
  7. Requires the ability to establish rapport and work collaboratively with diverse students, faculty, staff, community members, and external organizations.
  8. Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to adapt communication style and methodology to meet an individuals’ unique needs.
  9. Familiarity with Deaf culture, the disability rights/independent living movement, and a willingness to learn basic sign language skills preferred.

SalaryHiring Range – Minimum to Midpoint ($3,793 – 4,741/monthly)
