ASSISTANT PROFESSOR

COMPUTER SCIENCE

SUNY Broome Community College is a comprehensive community college located in the scenic Southern Tier of New York.  The College has over 7,700 students annually, and services over 6,100 students per semester in Liberal Arts, Business & Professional Studies, Health Sciences, and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) programs.  An additional 1,600 students are served through the College’s workforce and non-credit programs.

Job Description:

SUNY Broome Community College is seeking candidates for a full-time, 10-month, tenure-track appointment as Assistant Professor in the Computer Science Department.  This exciting career comes with an academic work schedule from August to May with time off to enjoy the summer months.  Ten (10) month salary is spread over twelve (12) months to allow for consistent, uninterrupted pay periods.  Benefits include, but are not limited to: Medical, Dental, and optional Vision and Flexible Benefit Plan.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

The SUNY Broome Community College Computer Science Department has a full-time, tenure-track appointment as an Assistant Professor in Computer Security and Forensics available beginning Spring 2024. Responsibilities include teaching, advising, program development, and assessment.  Knowledge in the following areas is required:

  • Cyber Security & Forensics
    • Computer Security Incident Response Process
    • Forensic data acquisition, analysis and reporting
    • Malware analysis
    • Cryptography
    • Computer and network security
  • Operating Systems
    • Windows (client/server)
    • Linux
  • Hardware
    • Computer hardware
    • Networking hardware
  • Networking
    • TCP/IP 
    • Virtualization (VMware ESXi/Xen), and 
  • Proficiency in procedural and object-oriented programming.  Knowledge of C++, Python and Intel Assembly Language is preferred.

Instruction will be face-to-face, hi-flex and online.  Experience in Computer Security and Forensics or related field with work experience in an area appropriate to the teaching field strongly preferred. Prior teaching at the community college level in the classroom and online is preferred.

Requirements:

A Master’s degree in an appropriate field is required.  Additional graduate coursework in an appropriate field is desirable.

Three years teaching experience, or an appropriate combination of teaching, relevant work experience, and scholarly activity is required.

Additional Information:

The minimum annual salary rate for this position is $55,225.

Offers of employment will be conditional based upon the results of a satisfactory, required pre-employment Standard Background Check.
