Oneonta City School District has the following anticipated vacancy:

  • Director of Special Education

Candidates must have a valid NYS School District Leader Certification. As the Director of Special Education, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of special education programs within our organization. Your primary focus will be to ensure the provision of high-quality education and support services to students with disabilities, in compliance with state and federal regulations. You will collaborate with school administrators, teachers, parents, and external agencies to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to each student's needs. Additionally, you will provide leadership and professional development opportunities to special education staff, fostering a culture of inclusivity and excellence.

Responsibilities: Develop and implement policies and procedures for the identification, assessment, and placement of students with disabilities. Coordinate the delivery of special education services, including resource allocation and scheduling. Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and mandates pertaining to special education. Collaborate with stakeholders to develop and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities. Provide leadership and support to special education staff, including professional development and mentoring. Facilitate communication and collaboration among teachers, parents, administrators, and external agencies involved in special education. Evaluate the effectiveness of special education programs and services, making recommendations for improvement as needed. Serve as a liaison between the school district and community organizations, advocating for the needs of students with disabilities. Stay abreast of current research, trends, and best practices in the field of special education. Perform other duties as assigned by the superintendent or district leadership team.

Salary: $90,000 - $115,000 commensurate with education and experience. Effective date: July 2024
