Hope Center for Women and Children (part-time)

Hope Ministries’ Hope Center for Women and Children is a life-recovery program offering hope and help to homeless women and children in central Iowa. The Center, located in Des Moines, offers both short term and long-term recovery options, providing women with education, case management and personal mentoring in a faith-based environment.

Our Children’s Ministry Coordinator plays a key role with the children that we serve, helping them to learn spiritual and life skills through Biblically-sound activities, and helping mothers build nurturing, trusting, and caring relationships with their children.

The Children’s Ministry Coordinator:

• Has a broad understanding of early childhood principles and behavioral problems.
• Communicates effectively with the children, their mothers, and our volunteers. Equips volunteers working with our children to build skills and address behavioral issues.
• Conducts activities around play and Bible stories at our Tuesday and Thursday ministry times, creating effective teaching opportunities for children.
• Provides appropriate supervision during organized activities, fostering an atmosphere of emotional and physical safety through implementation of behavior guidelines.
• Responds to symptoms of emotional distress in children.

We are looking for people who:

• Are in agreement with Hope Ministries’ Statement of Faith, Statement of Purpose, and Core Values (see links).
• Have a patient and understanding spirit, with the ability to teach practical truths from Scripture at the appropriate childhood level. Two years’ experience in children’s ministry is a plus.
• Have a high school diploma and a valid driver’s license, and are able to lift a child weighing up to 50 pounds.
