Assistant Professor of Music and Athletic Bands - Ferris State University. Ferris State University's Department of Humanities seeks applicants for Assistant Professor of Music and Athletic Bands. There is no music major at the University. Instead, our undergraduate music offerings provide general education experiences for non-music majors via a variety of music appreciation courses and a variety of musical ensembles, including concert bands, jazz band, string orchestra, concert choir, and athletic pep band. The primary responsibilities of this position will be to lead the University's Athletic Pep Band and to contribute positively to an active instrumental music program and other appropriate music activities. Currently, the Athletic Pep Band performs for: home games for football, men's and women's basketball, hockey; select playoff games, at home or away for any of these sports; and select other services as requested by University officials. The successful candidate will also contribute to the effort of researching of, and depending on the outcome of that research and the University's response to it, potentially implementing and directing a new marching band. The start date of this position is August 2023. Required: Master's degree in Music or Music Education and previous athletic band conducting experience, including pep band and marching band.
