The Assistant Principals work effectively with students, staff, and members of the community to establish and maintain a safe and educationally sound school environment. At hiring, each Assistant Principal is assigned responsibility for a segment of the student body (Grades 9 & 11 and Grades 10 & 12). In the second year, the Assistant Principals trade off the grade divisions, allowing for continuity in service to the student body. The Assistant Principals are responsible for the following areas within the school building as it pertains to their specified grade levels: Student Discipline, Attendance, Class Activities and School Culture. Assistant Principal duties are shared specific to Student Transportation (Bus Coordination/Student Parking) and the Conflict Resolution Center, corridor monitoring, and lunch supervision within the cafeteria. In addition, the Assistant Principals facilitate BVT’s involvement with various community services, and work in harmony with administrative team members to raise expectations for higher student achievement and to foster the social, emotional, and ethical development of BVT students. The Assistant Principals work directly under the authority of the Assistant Superintendent-Director/Principal.

Responsibilities and Duties:

1.Administer the enforcement of school rules and regulations in school, at all school sponsored events, and within those situations where a nexus exists between the outside activity and an in-school source as stated in the student handbook and other school policy manuals.
2.Monitor, record, maintain, and report as needed on student attendance and disciplinary records for the respective grade levels for internal use, and state required reporting
3.Supervise and coordinate the flow of students in hallways, lavatories, locker rooms, and cafeteria before, during and after school until the 3:15 late bus departure.
4.Make recommendations for revisions to policies and rules affecting all students while in school relative to attendance/discipline.
5.Execute the existing progressive disciplinary action policy. Hold all students accountable with the goal of reducing the occurrence of disciplinary infractions, particularly those by repeat offenders. Continually develop pro-active behavior measures and increase staff involvement in the process.
6.Coordinate efforts of the school district to work cooperatively and effectively with local/state law enforcement, fire, and court officials.
7.Engage with other administrators to develop service-learning initiatives, which integrate classroom/shop curriculum with community service activities/programs and the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.
8.Foster the development of student growth socially, emotionally and ethically through the promotion of BVT programs and safe school initiatives such as Respect across the Curriculum, the LGBTQIA+ Alliance, and the Multicultural Club.
9.Maintain professional relationships with DCF, DYS, DMH, District Courts and Probation to build relationships for Blackstone Valley Tech to work in partnership to advocate on behalf of students.
10.Annually review and edit school publications such as Student Handbook, Faculty Handbook, Emergency/Evacuation Procedures etc.
11.Coordinate and maintain student transportation issues relative to bus and automobile transport.
12.Liaison for outreach programs to include school safety programs and overseeing related community service projects. Work cohesively with the Guidance, Special Education, and Nursing Departments to design, implement, evaluate and modify comprehensive student services including follow-up to regular meetings of the student review team.
13. Supervise and evaluate the Conflict Resolution Center Coordinator, Campus Safety Officers, and Cafeteria Monitors.
14.Maintain regular communication between student/teacher and parent/guardians regarding attendance and discipline issues.
15.Meet regularly with administrators, guidance, special education, and faculty members to maintain continuity of information on all students.
16.Evaluate teaching staff under the current Teacher Evaluation system.
17.Complete professional improvement training which add new skills.
18.Assume all other assignments as directed by the Assistant Superintendent-Director/Principal.
19.Participate in yearly Restraint Trainings; Train BVT staff members on an annual basis.
20.Attend monthly School Counsel meetings with the Assistant Superintendent-Director/Principal.
21.Participate and attend School Committee and Town Meetings as needed.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. 1.Master’s Degree in school administration, teaching, or a related field.
2.Possess the necessary credentials as required for certification as Assistant Principal by statutes under M.G.L. Chapter 71 as amended.
3.Possess the necessary credentials as required for certification as a Vocational Technical Administrator under M.G.L. Chapter 74 and pursuant to the Vocational Educational Regulations 603CMR 4.00 as amended by the MA Board of Elementary and Secondary Education.
4.Personal characteristics and experience necessary for working effectively with a diversity of student/parent/staff perspectives and personalities in organizing and maintaining school standards of student behavior.


Compensation and Terms of Employment:
1.Annual salary is negotiable and subject to the level of professional credentials, experience, and performance.
