POSITION DESCRIPTION
Baker School District is currently seeking a candidate for a Language Arts teaching
position at Baker Middle School for the 2022-2023 school year. Position is 1.0 FTE.
Position is responsible for working to deepen the student’s understanding of the English
language through reading, writing, listening and speaking.
Position is responsible for creating a classroom environment that develops each
student’s skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing that are fundamental to
effective communication and literate citizenship; that develops appreciation of good
literature of all types; and that motivates students to read widely for information and
recreation.
Preference given to candidates with interest in teaching Yearbook.

POSITION EXPECTATIONS
Teaches content and skills in English language, literature, composition, and reading to
middle school students.
Adapts English material and methods to develop relevant sequential assignments and
lesson plans that guide and challenge students.
Encourages students to think independently and to express original ideas.
Evaluates each student’s progress in meeting the course standards for English skills
(listening, speaking, reading and writing).
Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly,
productive classroom environment.
Communicates with parents and school counselors on student academic and behavioral
progress.
Administers testing in accordance with the District’s testing practices.
Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
Performs other duties as assigned.
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
This position requires the candidate to hold, or be eligible to hold an Oregon Teaching
License with the proper endorsement.

Willingness to work collaboratively with colleagues as well as with students and their
families to achieve best outcomes.
Communicate effectively and professionally with families about student grades and
behavior.
Develop and maintain classroom environment conducive to effective, engaging and
developmentally appropriate learning.
Works collaboratively to bring an ELA focus to STEAM programming school wide.
SALARY INFORMATION
The annual certified salary scale for the 2022-2023 school year is $37,920 -
$71,881, for 1.0 FTE, depending on years of experience and level of education.
Baker School District allows all teaching experience years within the U.S. (substitute
years not included) and education to be used in placing the teacher on the salary
schedule. Currently, teacher contracts are approximately 1547 hours with a four-day
work week. Certified staff report for approximately one Friday per month for
meetings and PD activities.

This position will begin at the start of the 2022-2023 school year.
