Dean of Students, Secondary (Grades 7-12)
Addison Central School is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Dean of Students, Secondary (Grades 7-12), to assist in the overall operation and maintenance of school and implementation of the Code of Conduct in order to provide a safe and orderly learning environment for students, faculty and staff. Addison Central School District offers a competitive starting salary of over $50,000 or higher depending on experience.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
The MS/HS Dean of Students will perform the following duties and all other responsibilities as assigned by the program principals.
- Maintain school and student records related to student behavior.
- Provide guidance to teachers in addressing issues related to student behavior.
- Participate in the development, modification, maintenance and implementation of a Student Code of Conduct for the building assigned.
- Collaborate with the Program Principals in the articulation of a consistent Student Behavior Management Plan.
- Work with staff to follow through on student behavior incidents, referrals and interventions.
- Assist the Program Principal in interpreting the district and school educational and behavioral expectation program to staff, parents and community.
- Complete reports on student behavior incidents handled by the Dean of Students.
- Supervise and manage student behavior throughout the school.
- Participate in PPS meetings; serve as a resource on issues of student behavior and conduct.
- Provide visible and effective leadership for students; actively model the principles of the district’s Student Code of Conduct.
- Supervise students during lunch, hall duty, dismissal, after school and other times designated by the Program Principals.
- Promote early intervention and/or make referrals for students having difficulties to the appropriate PPS staff members or community agencies.
- Counsel/interact with individual students on behavioral issues.
- Participate in enforcing school and classroom behavioral norms.
- Conduct individual conferences with parents, and/or staff, and/or students to address issues that arise with particular students on behavioral issues.
- Assist the Program Principals in carrying out student disciplinary hearings and suspensions.
- Follow-up on students who fail to report for detention or in-school suspension.
- Collaborate with the Program Principals in the daily management of a safe school environment.
- Assist in the preparation of district student behavior reports, as assigned by the Program Principals.
- Collaborate with the Administrative Cabinet, Program Principal and PPS staff.
- Initiate the improvement of safety and culture of the school.
- Pursue personal professional development.
- Collaborate with the Program Principal in developing annual goals and objectives.
Job Qualifications:
Appropriate Teacher Certification and a Masters Degree from an approved institution; as well as fingerprint clearance through NYSED is required. A School Building Leader Certificate or equivelant, or currently participating in such a program for certification is preferred, but not required.
